Alabama Football vs. Georgia: Will Hurricane Helene Impact the Game?

In case you haven't heard, a tropical disturbance soon to be known as Hurricane Helene is forming in the Gulf of Mexico, throwing into question the weather situation for Saturday's big game between Alabama and Georgia. In addition to the game itself, College GameDay will be taking place on campus, along with undoubtedly several other media outlets. Fortunately, local meteorologist James Spann is optimistic about the forecast at this point:

* Due to this northwest movement, the weather in inland Alabama will be windy and very wet on Thursday. It's too early to predict the impacts for any specific location, but the general consensus is that the eastern half of Alabama can expect 3 to 5 inches of rain Wednesday through Friday, with 2 to 4 inches in western counties.

*The weekend will be much drier across Alabama, and we expect only isolated showers during college football games on Saturday.

*Understand that all of this can easily change. Once the system is actually working, the confidence in the forecast will be much higher and we can make concrete impact predictions. With tropical systems, if you're working with old information, you're working with bad information.

It goes without saying that our greatest concern is the safety of everyone on the coast who is caught in the path of this storm. Please stay safe, everyone.

However, no one involved wants to see this game in monsoon rain. Hopefully Spann is right and the weather holds.

Rolling tide.
