First warning: stormy on Monday, calm in the middle of the week

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Stay alert with your First Alert Weather Team and your WECT Weather App through Monday evening. The National Hurricane Center is officially forecasting that a tropical storm named Helene will move toward the South Carolina coast by the end of the day, bringing a variety of disruptive weather elements to the Cape Fear region. Expect heavy rain, isolated flooding, severe storms with waterspouts and tornadoes, frequent wind gusts over 30 and isolated gusts over 40 mph, offshore storms, rough surf, surf backwash, minor coastal flooding and beach erosion. Amid the chaos, temperatures will likely hover around the 20s.

While Helene's weather continues, improving and warmer weather conditions are expected by the middle of the week.
