Helene will drench Carolinas through the first half of Friday before drying out over the weekend

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – With Helene still playing an important role, Friday will start out wet and windy.

  • Today: First alert weather day – Helene brings pouring rain and wind
  • Weekend: Big improvement, low chance of rain, seasonal temperatures
  • Next week: Mostly dry, pleasant seasonal temperatures, no major storms

Heavy rain and gusty winds will continue throughout the morning as the remnants of Helene move to our west. A gradual improvement will begin this afternoon with reduced rain chances, reduced wind gusts and a break in the sun.

But until the weather improves, persistent flooding, falling trees and power outages will continue to be a problem.

Wind gusts of at least 50 mph will continue this morning before falling back below 30 mph this afternoon.

There is a risk of patchy clouds and a passing shower this evening with lows in the 60s.

The remnants of Helene will be long gone by the weekend, with seasonal highs in the lower 80s and much lower chances of rain. Most of next week looks to be relatively calm, with plenty of sunshine and seasonal afternoon temperatures in the low 80s.
