The LIV Golf League is finishing its 2024 season with a team format, hosting the LIV Golf Team Championship at Maridoe Golf Club outside Dallas. And to say the event is lucrative is, well, an understatement. A total of $50 million is at stake, with the four-person team that wins on Sunday earning $14 million.

As in previous years, the prize money for this final championship of the year will be distributed 60 percent to the team to cover team expenses and 40 percent to the players. So this is how the prize money will be distributed for the winning team on Sunday.

Winning team: 14 million US dollars

Team share: 8.4 million US dollars (60 percent)

Players share: $1.4 million per player

Likewise, the prize money of all other teams is distributed so that 60 percent goes to the “team” and 40 percent goes to the players for their weekly work.

The format of the team competition in Maridoe is, well, a little difficult to follow. On Friday, the teams ranked 4th through 13th in the season's rankings competed. The top seeds from those teams chose who they would face in the quarterfinals.

The team that scores two or more points will advance to Saturday's semifinals, where they will face the No. 1 to No. 3 seeds who had a bye. A similar match play format will be used to determine the four winners.

Interestingly, there were some surprise upsets during Friday's quarterfinals, as the two lowest-seeded teams, No. 13 Iron Heads (captain: Kevin Na) and No. 12 HyFlyers (captain: Phil Mickelson), defeated No. 4 Smash (Brooks Koepka) and No. 5 Torque (Joaquin Niemann), respectively. In the first two years of the team championship, no team seeded below No. 11 had won. The Iron Heads and HyFlyers are two of the three LIV golf teams that have never won a tournament.

“We showed that anything can happen in a game,” said Iron Heads captain Kevin Na, whose club lost 6-0 in the quarterfinals in its first two seasons.

This is how the pairings in the semi-finals on Saturday look:

On Sunday, all 13 teams will play for the final result. All players will compete in stroke play, with the results of all four teams being added together. The lowest score of the four teams that won the matches on Saturday will be the overall winner, with the remaining teams taking second to fourth place. The losing teams on Saturday will play for fifth to eighth place, and the losing teams on Friday will play for ninth to thirteenth place.
