Notre Dame was able to get a key player back from injury in wide receiver Jordan Faison. And Faison nearly brought heartbreak to Irish fans when he dropped a punt deep in Irish territory. The Miami of Ohio Redhawks had a short field.

After Redhawks quarterback Brett Gabbert found Cade McDonald for 21 yards to the Irish 5-yard line, Notre Dame fans started thinking, “Here we go again,” after losing at home to Northern Illinois Huskie two weeks ago. The Huskies, like the Redhawks, are a Mid-American Conference team.

The Irish ended the attack when Christian Gray deflected a pass from Gabbert and the ball fell into the hands of linebacker Niuafe Junior Tuihalamaka.

Notre Dame couldn't do anything with the loss of the ball, and the drive ended with a punt. But at least the Irish kept Miami off the scoreboard for the time being.
