Kentucky singer Chris Stapleton appears on The Today Show.

Kentucky musician Chris Stapleton had a surprise guest in the audience during his appearance on “The Today Show” on Friday.

Former Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade was in the audience at TODAY Plaza at Rockefeller Center, cheering on the seven-time CMA Male Vocalist of the Year. “Today Show” host Hoda Kotb called Wade to the stage and the basketball star explained that he had a good friend who got him interested in Stapleton's music.

“I'm a big fan, I love his voice, when he sings you can feel it in your bones and feel a chill,” Wade told the audience.

Stapleton told the crowd that he had no idea Wade was such a fan.

“That was a nice surprise, it’s so nice to meet you,” Stapleton said.

Stapleton performed as part of the Today Show's Citi Concert Series at Rockefeller Center on Friday. In the seven years since his last appearance on the Today Show, his career has taken off. He has received a total of 39 CMA nominations since 2015.

Another highlight of the appearance was Stapleton unveiling what his crew calls his iconic cowboy hat, which “Today Show” host Craig Melvin described as “almost as famous as you.”

“The crew nicknamed him Precious,” Stapleton revealed. “I didn't name it that because it follows me everywhere, it's kind of a part of my head, but everyone takes care of it like it's something precious.”

Stapleton was also joined on stage by his wife Morgane, who sang with him during the concert.

“We just have so much fun,” Stapleton said of his wife. “Part of it is engaging with each other and looking at each other. Besides, she’s just my comfort, and hopefully I’m hers up there too.”
