Out-of-contract striker Kevin Knox is joining the Golden State Warriors on a one-year deal, Shams Charania reported for The Athletic on Wednesday.

Knox is expected to compete for a roster spot in training camp, Charania noted.

Knox, who is entering his seventh NBA season, averaged 7.2 points and 2.4 rebounds in 31 appearances for the Detroit Pistons last season.

He averaged 18.1 points per night for the Pistons, shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 33 percent from behind the three-point line.

Knox earned a spot in Golden State's training camp after impressing in four Summer League appearances in blue and yellow, averaging 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.

The striker showed his offense during a Summer League Semifinal loss to the Miami Heat summer team, leading the Warriors with 31 points and 11 rebounds.

It seems that this performance encouraged the Warriors to give the 6-foot-7 forward a chance at a spot on the regular season roster.

Knox, a Kentucky native and selected No. 9 overall by the New York Knicks in the 2018 draft, spent most of his rookie season as a starter before moving to the Knicks' reserves for the next two seasons.

The Knicks traded the forward to the Atlanta Hawks in the middle of the 2022-23 season, after which Knox signed with the Detroit Pistons.

Knox was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers in February 2023, then released by the team in October of the same year. He re-signed with the Pistons, but was traded again to the Utah Jazz in February, and has been an unrestricted free agent since then.

The forward will now enter the Warriors' training camp with 306 regular season appearances and 77 starts on his roster, while averaging career averages of 7.4 points and 2.9 rebounds per night.

The Warriors are looking to rebound from a disappointing season that resulted in them missing the playoffs last season and losing Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks in the offseason.

During the offseason, the Warriors signed free agents Buddy Hield, De'Anthony Melton and Kyle Anderson to revitalize the squad around Steph Curry.

Knox probably won't boost the Warriors' playoff hopes as much as backups Hield, Melton or Anderson, especially given his struggles behind the three-point line in Detroit. But if he can impress in training camp, Knox could still help the Warriors build out their wing reserves as the Warriors look to return with a larger roster in the fall.
