St. Xavier QB Chase Herbstreit scores in first game against Moeller

Moeller And Saint Xavier participate year after year in what is often Cincinnati's biggest high school football game – and this season's edition started with a bang.

Quarterback of St. Xavier Chase Herbstreit opened the game with an 80-yard run that resulted in a touchdown after a planned quarterback run.

The Bombers entered the game as the No. 4 team in the state of Ohio, according to the On3 Massey ReviewsThe Crusaders were right behind them in 5th place.

Herbstreit, the son of ESPN star and former Ohio State Quarterback Kirk Herbstreit began the evening with 567 passing yards and six touchdowns in four games, plus an additional 225 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

St. X started this week with a season defeat, losing the season opening game on the way to Lakota WestSince then, the Bombers have gone 3-0 with wins over Indianapolis Cathedral, Withdraw And Centerville — Kirk Herbstreit’s alma mater.

According to On3, the 1.88 m tall and 82 kg heavy Herbstreit is a promising young player and one of the 125 best quarterbacks.

Herbstreit spent the summer visiting camps across the Midwest. He told On3's Chad Simmons in June that at the time Kentucky And Notre-Dame had shown the greatest interest.

“No matter what teams want me, I would give all teams the same chance,” Chase said. “I would love to play college football anywhere. I'm just excited for the opportunity.”

Herbstreit added that his father's experience in college football helped Chase throughout the process.

“Having a dad like mine definitely helps,” Chase said. “He knows what it takes to be successful in the game. He's done it and he helps me a lot. Not only has he been successful at a high level, but because of his job, he sees very successful players everywhere he goes. I get great feedback from him, so he's a big help to me.”
