Kickers are incredibly good these days, even at the college level.

As NFL kickers continue to put on a show by performing almost automatically regardless of distance, it's clear that the future of kicking could be in even better hands.

Temple kicker Maddux Trujillo made history by making a 55-yard field goal on Saturday.

Trujillo's field goal was the eighth-longest in NCAA history, but the second-longest in modern FBS history. Yahoo Sports points out that kickers were allowed to use a tee until 1989. The longest kick made was 69 yards in 1976.

Former NFL kicker Martin Gramatica still holds the modern record by one yard, a feat he accomplished with Kansas State in 1998.

Trujillo's kick is the longest successful field goal since 2008 and also the longest field goal in Lincoln Financial Field history, surpassing Jake Elliott's 55-yard kick from 2017 when the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New York Giants as time expired.

The field goal changed the momentum of the game and reduced the Owls' deficit against Utah State to 21-17 at halftime.

Temple scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to take a 38-21 lead.

Utah State attempted a comeback late in the fourth quarter with a touchdown and a two-point conversion, but Temple answered with a touchdown about a minute later to ensure its comeback was not wasted. In the end, Temple won 49-25 and secured its first win of the season.
