Tottenham Hotspur vs Brentford: Premier League – BBC Sport

Dominic Solanke scored his first goal for Tottenham as the team came from behind to beat Brentford in an entertaining game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

After falling behind after just 30 seconds, Ange Postecoglou's side fought back to win convincingly, easing any potential unrest that might have followed two consecutive Premier League defeats.

The visitors took the lead after just 23 seconds when Bryan Mbeumo converted a cross from Keane Lewis-Potter into the goal with a brilliant volley.

Spurs equalised after eight minutes when James Maddison intercepted Ethan Pinnock's pass on the edge of the box and Solanke, whose shot had been blocked, coolly slotted home the rebound.

It was the striker's first goal since his £65 million move from Bournemouth in the summer.

The home side continued to dominate and, after another loose pass from Brentford, Brennan Johnson fired a neat shot past Bees goalkeeper Mark Flekken just before the half hour mark, giving them a more than deserved lead.

Maddison secured the points shortly before the end with a fine lob after running onto a pass from Son Heung-min.

After falling behind early on, Spurs reacted well and were clearly the better team in a chaotic first half in which Brentford repeatedly gave them possession.

But it was the visitors who had the best chance towards the end of the first half when the home team's goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario saved a shot from Mbeumo after Fabio Carvalho had taken the ball from him on his own six-yard line.

Spurs had their chances early in the first half, but Brentford felt they could have been given the opportunity to get back into the game just under the hour mark when Vicario appeared to handle a ball outside his penalty area.

However, referee John Brooks rejected the appeals and since it was not a question of preventing a goal-scoring opportunity, the video assistant referee did not intervene.

Brentford's frustration was compounded by the Italian goalkeeper making a brilliant save to deny Kevin Schade's precise header.

While the away team tried to force an equaliser, Maddison's counterattack goal calmed the nerves of the home fans and Spurs recorded their second league win of the season.
