Tyrann Mathieu regrets altercation on the sidelines with Jalen Carter of the Eagles

Tyrann Mathieu got a little heated during Sunday's 15-12 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The New Orleans Saints safety was involved in a sideline altercation with Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter, who became irate after Philadelphia won the game on a Reed Blankenship interception. Carter's trainers had to drag him back to the bench to prevent an escalation.

When the Saints defense took the field in the final 48 seconds of the game to secure Philadelphia's final possession, Mathieu and Carter could be seen making life difficult for each other.

It got to the point where Carter had to be restrained by head coach Nick Sirriani and others on the Eagles' sideline. Mathieu said after the game that he regretted his involvement in the incident, which he also emphasized in his postgame press conference with the media. As team captain and one of the Saints' veteran leaders, he has to keep a cool head and set a good example, even in tense moments, he says.

“Me and (Marshon Lattimore) should never go to the sideline of those guys. (But) that happens to all of us,” Mathieu said. “The emotions got the better of us. I didn't hear from those guys the whole game until the end. I'm looking forward to hopefully playing against them again.”

Mathieu finished the game with seven solo tackles and one interception.
